RV Expenses

It is a good idea to make an RV budget and then monitor it for several months. By doing this you will be able to calculate your expenses and make a solid expenditure plan.

When you begin the RV budget planning process keep detailed records of everything. Even laundry expenses and snacks should be written down so you will have a concise picture of what this is all going to cost. After you have kept track of all the expenses for several months you are ready to make a real RV budget plan. Have a list of both budget items such as campground fees and fuel as well as a discretionary expense list for RV expenses such as recreation, cell phone fees and storage.

After monitoring both lists for awhile you will be able to make adjustments where necessary. Often you may need to move some of the miscellaneous items to the actual budget list rather than leaving them on the discretionary list. When making the RV basic expense budget be sure to consider these areas: campground fees, gas, clothing, groceries, repairs and maintenance, insurance and license fees, propane, medical expenditures. Discretionary items might include recreation, a telephone answering service, cell phone, memberships for campgrounds, storage, gifts and contributions,
laundry, magazines, postage, and computer supplies. You will need to decide what you require for your RV travels. If you are taking the RV on the road for weekends and vacations your budget will look different from the full-timers. Adjust your budget accordingly and try if for a few months to make sure it will work for your specific RV situation. By using a simple RV budget plan you will be able to calculate your RV expenses in a realistic way. This will add to the enjoyment of your RV lifestyle because you will be able to keep the financial surprises to a minimum.
